Your Discomfort is Not My Concern
Some thoughts for those outside the vortex of child loss:
Many bereaved parents often speak of their deceased children. They are still a part of us, they are very much an extension of who we are. Our story was forever changed the day of their death. We honor their memory, and we share them, because we cannot be with them. You can go home to your children, hold them on your laps, kiss them goodnight, watch them grow…we do not have that luxury. The next time you find yourself wishing we’d stop talking about them, feeling uncomfortable because we bring them up, consider this. Our pain may make you uncomfortable for only a moment, while we have to feel it for the rest of our lives.
Respect our need to talk about our loss, and honor it by listening.
Beautifully, painfully said. I personally did not experience a child’s loss but when I was 13 years old, my aunt’s son passed away at only 1 and a 1/2 years of age, I was forever changed. I talk about Joey to my family and miss him dearly each and every day.
Sending love, comfort and peaceful thoughts your way!

It’s been almost 26 years since losing our son, I think and talk about him quite often!
